The Lost Numbers

I'm a huge fan of the TV show Lost (ABC) (Wikipedia) (imdb.com) (tv.com). I've seen Season 1 on DVD since I rarely watch TV. I'll probably wait until Season 2 is out on DVD and watch it then unless I ever get around to downloading it on BitTorrent.

The numbers on Lost are 4 8 15 16 23 42. The character Hurley's wins the lottery with these numbers and it brings him nothing but bad luck. People who watch the show are also betting this numbers in the Lottery but it's been bad luck for them as well.

So what do these numbers mean? Is there some kind of mathematical pattern? Actually these numbers are quite meaningful for example the actress Michelle Rodriguez who plays Ana Lucia in Season 2 was sitting in seat 42F. The numbers also represent seat numbers different characters were sitting in.

Not convinced? Oceanic Air flight that crashed was 815. Kate was trying to get into box 815. Charlie was trying to sell copier model C-815. Kate and Tom buried the time-capsule Aug 15 (8/15). Isles 8 and 15 contain the nerf and regulation footballs. Lost is on the cover is Entertainment weekly issue 815.

I was going to list the various meanings of the numbers but this blog is beyond thorough so I'll simply link to Season 1 and Season 2.

Alternate Movie Trailers

Music and editing plays a big part in determining how you preceive a movie. The DVD for The Beach came with about 6 different tailers, each emphasizing a different theme like love, danger, adventure, excitement, fun and beauty.

But the following trailers take it to the extreme making the movie into something they aren't.

Long walks

Tyler MacNiven's walks 2,000 mile in five months from the bottom of Japan to the top to impress his Japanese girlfriend and find his father's birth place. Google has a video about it. Tyler also has his own web page.

Tyler was inspired by his girlfriend's father George Meegan who walked over 19,000 miles (30,431 km) between 1977-83 (7 years) from the southernmost tip of South America to the Arctic Ocean at Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. It was also "the longest unbroken march of all time". He published a book called The Longest Walk.

Tyler MacNiven is travelling again, this time on the Amazing Race!

According to Guiness World Records the longest walk is by Arthur Blessitt of 55,524 km over 31 years since December 25th, 1969 crossing all 7 continents. I searched for George Meegan on guinnessworldrecords.com but found no mention of him.

Batgirl

Someone drew Batgirl on LiveJournal and a meme was born. I found this on metafilter. At the time of this blog entry there were 919 links and I looked at each one and saved my favorites.
